9 food court
•• feeding frenzy, food fight, food court
•• * Картинка, изображающая животных, дерущихся за пищу, используется журналистами как метафора для описания поведения своих коллег, набрасывающихся на «подставившегося» (кстати, на это яркое русское словечко я не нахожу лучших вариантов, чем довольно сухие английские opened himself up to attack или made himself vulnerable; более разговорное went out on a limb, боюсь, не совсем то: Hornby, как и Oxford American Dictionary, определяет это выражение как put oneself in a vulnerable position, e.g. because separated from supporters) политика – или его жену, как это произошло с женой английского премьера Шери Блэр. Заголовок в Time:
•• Cherie Blair becomes the focus of tabloid feeding frenzy that overwhelms Tony’s spinners.
•• After the froth left by the media feeding frenzy cleared away, she seemed more victim than villain.
•• The issue reflects the administration’s ideological fault lines, and in recent months Mr. Bush’s national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, has stepped in, as one senior aide said, “to make sure there was not a public food fight on this one.”
•• The conference on racism last year <...> degenerated into a food fight over whether to equate Zionism with racism. (New York Times)

14 corte marziale
(cortile) (court)yardSee:Cultural note: corti The Corte d'Appello hears appeals against sentences passed by courts in both civil and criminal cases and can modify sentences where necessary. The Corte d'Assise tries serious crimes such as manslaughter and murder; its judges include both legal professionals and members of the public. Similar in structure, the Corte d'Assise d'Appello hears appeals imposed by these two courts. The Corte di Cassazione is the highest judicial authority and ensures that the law is correctly applied by the other courts; it may call for a re-trial if required. The Corte dei Conti ensures the Government's compliance with the law and the Constitution. Reporting directly to Parliament, it oversees the financial aspects of the state budget. The politically independent Corte Costituzionale decides whether laws comply with the principles of the Constitution, and has the power to impeach the "Presidente della Repubblica".* * *corte marzialemil. court-martial\→ corte————————corte marzialecourt-martial\→ marziale -
